A Case of Primary Hypersplenism with Multiples Splenic Infarctions

Abstract

|
The authors have experienced a case of so-called primary hypersplenism accompanied
by splenomegaly & multiple splenic infarctions. Despite intensive diagnostic work-ups to
find underlying causes for hypersplenism with splenomegaly, we could not verify the
underlying etiology.
Explo-laparotomy with splenectomy was carried out for diagnostic and therapeutic
purposes under the preop. impression of primary typersplenism with multiple splenic
infarctions. Gross and microscopic examination of spleen revealed no other pathologic
findings than multiple infarctions, which are thought to have aggravates with pack-cell
transfusion during admission.
Post-operatively, clinical and laboratory findings of hypersplenism showed
improvement without any particular complication.
Thus, we report a case of primary hypersplenism accompanied by multiple infarctions,
which was corrected with splenectomy.
